Ideas

What people share as an HTML link

A report an AI tool made

Claude or ChatGPT gave you an .html file. Send it as a page that opens on a phone.

A one-page proposal

Send the client a link instead of an attachment that shows code.

A prototype or a mockup

Let someone click through it without installing anything.

An export from a tool

Dashboards and notebooks that export to HTML open as they were.

For the other person

What people see when they open the link

A page, not code

It opens in the browser on any phone or computer. Nobody needs to download the file.

Charts and filters keep working

JavaScript in the page runs, so hover details, tabs and filters work as they do on your computer.

Replace it, keep the link

Signed in, replace the HTML file and the link you already sent shows the new version.

A password if you need one

On Starter and above, add a password before you send it.

Before you upload: check the images

Your browser can load images from your own disk, so a page can look right on your computer and break for everyone else. Open the file, choose View Page Source, and search for src=. A path like C:\Users\… or /Users/… won't work online. A file name on its own, like logo.png, works if you zip it with the HTML.

If a PDF is enough because the other person only needs to read it, send a PDF. Our guide on how to share an HTML file explains when to send a link and when a PDF does the job.

FAQ

Common questions

Is it free to upload an HTML file?

Yes. Without an account you can upload an HTML file or a ZIP of up to 2 MB, and the link lasts about 15 minutes. Sign in to keep it. A new account gets Pro free for 7 days, no card. After that, a link on the Free plan stays online while it's opened at least once every 90 days, and shows a small Litehost badge.

Will it open as a page or show the code?

As a page. The link opens your HTML in the browser, the way it looks when you open the file on your own computer. Email attachments and most file-sharing links show the code or download the file instead.

My page has images and a CSS file. What do I upload?

Put the HTML file and the files it uses in one folder, zip it, and upload the ZIP. Without an account a ZIP can hold up to 5 files. Images that point to a path on your computer, like C:\Users or /Users, won't show for anyone else.

Can I change the page without changing the link?

Yes. Sign in, open the project and replace the HTML file. The link stays the same and shows the new version.

Does the person I send it to need an account?

No. A public Litehost link opens in the browser on a phone or a computer.

Can I host a website with a server or a database here?

No. Litehost serves files as they are: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images. Code that runs on a server, like PHP, Node or a database, won't run. For that you need a hosting service with a server.

What's the largest file I can upload?

2 MB without an account. With an account, the limit is your plan's storage: 5 MB on Free, 500 MB on Starter and 5 GB on Pro.
