Ideas

What people put behind a video QR code

A product demo on the box

People scan the package and watch how it works.

A video on a flyer or a poster

Turn a printed page into a short video for an event or a launch.

Instructions on a label

Show assembly or care steps instead of printing a long manual.

A message on a card

Add a video greeting to an invitation or a gift card.

Plans

How much video fits, and where the QR code comes from

This page, no account

About 15 minutes

Up to 2 MB

A few seconds of video. Enough to test a QR code, not to print it.

Free account, first 7 days

Pro, free

5 GB of storage

No card. QR codes from the dashboard are included.

Starter, $8 a month

Doesn't expire

500 MB of storage

QR codes, no badge, a password, and more projects.

After the 7 days, Free keeps one project online while it's opened at least once every 90 days and takes new uploads up to 5 MB; new QR codes from the dashboard need Starter. Prices and limits as of October 2026. See all plans

Upload an MP4 with H.264

Litehost doesn't convert your video. The person watching plays the file you uploaded, so its format decides whether it plays. An MP4 with H.264 plays in current phone and computer browsers. ProRes, and HEVC (what an iPhone records on "High Efficiency"), can show an empty player instead.

On an iPhone, set Settings > Camera > Formats to "Most Compatible" before you record, or export the video as H.264 from your editor.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I make a QR code for a video for free?

Yes. A new account gets Pro free for 7 days, no card: upload the video (5 GB of storage) and download its QR code from Share > QR Code. A QR code you downloaded keeps working while the video's link is online. After the 7 days, the Free plan keeps one project online while it's opened at least once every 90 days, and new QR codes from the dashboard need Starter ($8 a month). Without an account you can try a clip of up to 2 MB on this page.

Do I need to upload my video to YouTube first?

No. Most video QR code generators ask for a YouTube or Vimeo link. Here you upload the video file itself, and the QR code opens it in a player in the phone's browser, with no ads and no suggested videos after it.

Why not put the video itself in the QR code?

A QR code holds about 3 KB, far less than any video. Every video QR code works the same way: the video is stored online and the QR code holds its link. That's why the link has to stay online for the QR code to keep working.

What does the person who scans it see?

A player page with the video, play controls, full screen and a Download button, in their phone's browser. No app, no account. On Pro you can hide the Download button.

Why does the video show an empty player on some phones?

Litehost doesn't convert your file: the phone plays it as you uploaded it. ProRes and HEVC (the iPhone's 'High Efficiency' setting) don't play in every browser. Export an MP4 with H.264 video and it plays on current phones.

What size should I print it?

The PNG is big enough for a flyer, a table card or a poster. Keep the white border around it, and print it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide. Scan the printed code with your own phone before you print a batch.
